Astrachan Apple Tree on Standard sized root stock
$30.00
A summer apple, ripening in Mid-late August. Ripens over a few weeks. Medium-sized apple with red splashes over a greenish-yellow background. The flesh is white and often has red streaking. Tender and juicy, they’re tart when they first start to ripen so are great for cooking with and for saucing. The slightly red flesh makes more a beautiful sauce and pie filling. They mellow over the harvest season and are a fine dessert apple towards the end. Like all early-season apples, doesn’t store for long.
A cold hardy Russian variety introduced to MA in the early 1800’s. Bears young. Biennial tendencies. Susceptible to scab.
