Baldwin Apple Tree on Semi-dwarf sized root stock
$30.00
For fresh eating, baking and cooking. Gaining popularity as a single-varietal cider apple in the artisanal cider world. A large apple that is blushed and mottled with bright red and deep carmine stripes. The flesh is yellowish, crisp and juicy with a sprightly flavor. Late fall apple that stores very well.
A chance seedling from Wilmington, MA circa 1740. In the early 1900’s, Baldwin was the leading variety of apple in NY, New England, Southern Canada, Southern Michigan and Northern Ohio. Although slow to reach maturity, it is a strong growing, long-lived tree. Strong biennial tendencies. Baldwin’s are self-fertile and therefore poor pollinators of other apple trees.
5 Star Nursery and Orchard is a small family-owned, MOFGA certified organic farm located in Brooklin. We specialize in heirloom and native varieties of fruit and plants. We also make our own specialty apple products, including cider, vinegar, and dried fruit.
