Fameuse Apple Tree on Standard sized root stock

A small, almost half green, half red apple with very snow-white flesh. Most likely the parent of the McIntosh apple. With its tender skin and flesh, it is mildly subacid and nicely aromatic. Apples of New York describes it as “one of the most desirable dessert apples of its season”, which is early fall. Stores fairly well for an earlier apple. Also cooks up very quickly into a delightfully fluffy applesauce. A pleasant addition to our sweet cider blend.

Most likely originated in Canada in the 1600’s, with seed possibly brought by French settlers. Very cold hardy, it does not do well in more southern locations. It is a very vigorous tree, producing a good sized crop nearly every year.
