Known as an outstanding dessert apple. Orangish-red russeted skin. Yellowish flesh is crisp, juicy, rich and spicy. Fine addition to cider. Ready to harvest in late September-early October and stores for a couple of months.

Originated in England in about 1700. Brought to ME in the late 1700’s. Known to grow the best here in ME compared to other regions in the U.S. Most likely the parent of Cox’s Orange Pippin. Bears young and fairly regularly each year. Long-lived trees.
